European Wellbeing Initiative at “Décider Maintenant” Colloquium
Paris
We were honoured to participate as invited speakers at the prestigious “Décider Maintenant” colloquium, organised by La Fabrique de la Cité, Leonard (VINCI), and the École nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.
About the Event
The colloquium focused on “Mobility Infrastructures: Which models, which uses to develop territories?”. It gathered researchers, international experts, public authorities, and major infrastructure leaders to discuss governance models for mobility infrastructures, concession systems, economic trade-offs, territorial cohesion, and how these essential assets can best serve the public interest, social justice, and long-term wellbeing of populations.
Moderated by Jean-Marc Vittori (Les Echos) and Emmanuel Lechypre (BFM TV), the event explored historical perspectives, financing mechanisms, user needs, and the role of public-private partnerships in shaping sustainable and inclusive mobility.
Our Contribution
In Session 2 – Value of Service, Priorities, and Infrastructure Financing: The User Perspective, the European Wellbeing Initiative (Ewellin) was invited to bring the voice of professional drivers and parking operators directly into the debate.
Our speakers:
- Dirk Penasse, CEO and Founder of ESPORG
- Druselia Betea, Head of the European Wellbeing Initiative
Key messages we delivered:
- Safe and welcoming parking areas are not a detail — they are a fundamental part of modern mobility infrastructure.
- When drivers can stop safely and comfortably, they are healthier, more resilient, and safer once back on the road.
- Insights from a recent survey of 1,000 professional drivers revealed their real needs and expectations regarding rest facilities.
- The importance of the “Drive Safe, Park Safe, Work Safe & Live Well” approach and the creation of true “Home Away from Home” environments for drivers.
We highlighted how quality parking contributes to making the transport profession more attractive, supporting the energy transition, and improving overall road safety and social conditions for drivers across Europe.
Impact on the Wellbeing Campaign
This high-level invitation allowed us to place driver wellbeing and the quality of parking infrastructure at the centre of discussions on mobility governance and territorial development. It strengthened the visibility of our Wellbeing Pledgeand “Park Safe” campaign among key decision-makers and infrastructure leaders, creating valuable bridges between our on-the-ground actions and broader European policy conversations.
We are proud to have represented the real needs of professional drivers in this important forum and remain committed to advancing driver wellbeing as an essential pillar of sustainable transport.
